"From my very early days
I was lorry mad!"
Hi, I'm David Moore
Owner, director and driver at H.G Moore & Son Ltd.

From my very early days I was lorry mad! My bedroom walls were decorated with photos of the stalwarts from the 70’s, my favourites being the ERF, Ford Transcontinental & the mighty Leyland Marathon!
I had some great role models who indulged my early passion: my father who I rode out with every Sunday delivering mushrooms; Dennis Waspe who let me help him load pigs which we took to Devon. Ride out with Johnny Pollard delivering sugar beet into the Bury factory. Fertiliser deliveries with Tubby and not forgetting Freddie Clarke who done all of these including teaching me to drive artic lorry’s and repairing them too… These guys were the backbone of H G Moore, some were my family relations, but all were friends who I looked up to.
Most of these guys started their careers driving for my Grandad and taught me the three most important lessons that have made H G Moore & Son the success it is today - respect, hard work and professionalism.

I take great pride in being the 3rd generation of this fantastic family-owned business and still enjoy spending some of my time driving my Volvo FH. The stunning “Unlimited Edition” was launched by Volvo at the end of 2020 to show gratitude for the tremendous effort by the NHS during the Pandemic. Volvo pledged to donate £1,000 to NHS Charities Together for every special edition model sold in the UK and in less than six months were able to present a cheque for £70,000.
I wonder what my Grandad would have thought of this amazing truck?

A little bit about our heritage
H G Moore & Son Ltd was established in 1927 by Harry Moore, the grandfather of the current owner, David Moore
Harry had a small-holding and took his livestock to the local market in Bury St Edmunds. It wasn’t long before he was asked to back load for the local butcher. Word soon spread that Harry had a lorry and work steadily grew - H G Moore & Son was founded. Being a part of a rural community, it wasn’t long before the local farming community were making use of Harry’s services and a second lorry was purchased to cope with the demand.
Sadly Harry, in only his mid fifties, passed away and his son, Derek, took over the business shortly after leaving school, Derek actually wanted to be a farmer until the family business was thrust upon him, but he accepted the challenge and made a great success of the business by expanding further. By the 1980’s, livestock was no longer viable for the business, but H G Moore filled this gap by transporting mushrooms for Shepherds Grove, liquid fertiliser for Chafer (now Yara) and gas for Unigas.
The company has always operated from its depot in Walsham Le Willows, adjacent to the family home, allowing them to maintain the ‘family feel’ to the business. Now in its 3rd generation H G Moore & Son Ltd operates up to 10 articulated lorries and assorted trailers and continues to serve its long-standing customer base with dedication, reliability and trustworthiness.
